Fans suspects foul play over Eric Bekoe snub

With less than 2 weeks for the Black Stars coach; Milovan Rajevac to name his 23-man contingent team to do battle for the Nation come the 10th of January to the 31st of January 2010 in Angola in the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, a lot of questions have been raised about what REALLY goes in for a player to earn a deserving call-up to play for the Black Stars.

With the coach hinting the press of his intentions of including players from the Black Satellites’ side that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, football fans have been asking whether there are not enough experienced good quality-players in the world to play for Ghana than to think of playing most of these inexperienced Black Satellites players in such a star-studded competition on the African calendar.

Fred Smith – University of Ghana, Legon: “Eric Bekoe for my money is the best striker the Black Stars of Ghana can sing its own praises with by way of the 27th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations lurking in a distance. Many believe the Black Stars can win the Africa Cup of Nations could we have in our folds such world class strikers in the likes of the Didier Drogba’s and the Samuel Eto’os’ who’s great quality come from this continent of Africa. This chap is in great form and wondering what he would need to do before earning a place for the African Cup of Nations.”

“For me, former Asante Kotoko’s Eric Bekoe without any doubt in my mind rises to the occasion of leading the Black Stars attacking line with the two big events coming off on the African continent. I have been wondering what the coach of the Black Stars sees in Eric Bekoe that we Ghanaians have not been able to get our hands on. Could it be a clear case of someone sitting somewhere personal interest of not living within the corridors of the GFA to see this great talent show his worth to the world?”

Elizabeth Kwakye - Accra: “I’m always gutted to miss his name out of list of players released by the Federation and the coach when there is a game gearing up; being it a friendly or competitive fixture. What could be Eric Bekoe’s crime do deserve all these? I am tempted to believe it has got something to do with the Petrojet ace walking away from Virtus International; the agency that handles the contractual deals with Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac.

It comes as a great shock to know that before one can get a chance to prove his worth in the Black Stars side, one must and need to get in line with this agency. President of the Ghana Football Association on numerous counts claims one must need to be consistent to earn a place in the Stars squad which is purely done on merits. It’s time they stop deceiving the Ghanaian sporting society about these creepy assumptions in the name to protect the selfish claims of certain individuals.

Kwame Mensah: “It’s a pity for him not to neither been included nor given the chance to prove his worth. I don’t know what the problem could possibly be but I kind of feel that, he is not being given the chance to prove his worth. I have been following the statistics of him when he was in Ghana and that of him being in Egypt. He is scoring and I bet you, he would have earned an Egyptian national team call-up should he have been an Egyptian. I believe that is Ghana for you. How I wished Mr. Kwadwo Bonsu could make things change for the better because they guys there are surely planning to make a meal out of the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup respectively.”
