Ex-FA secretary released after 50-hour detention

The Former General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was yesterday released from the custody of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) after over 50 hours incarceration.

Mr. Worlanyo Agrah, was freed on a self-cognizance bail and is to report to the BNI, who are believed to be investigating fresh evidence that has emerged about the $46,000 saga, Chronicle gathered.

The latest investigation has been prompted by media reports in which Mr. Amadou Tanko, an Accra lawyer is quoted to have said that Agrah sought his help to convince the counsel of jailed former Sports Minister, Mallam Issa not to question him about his foreign bank account, Chronicle has learnt.

Agrah as picked up Tuesday by three plain clothed men and whisked away to BNI headquarters.

That fateful day happened to be his last day in office. Chronicle gathered he had gone to his office at the Ghana Football Secretariat to officially hand over.

Chronicle further learnt that he was questioned until around seven in the evening when he was driven back home for him to pick some clothing.

He was subsequently railroaded to the BNI for further questioning over his perceived role in the loss of the $46,000 for which the former Youth and Sports Minister has been jailed.

The BNI had initially denied holding him. Friends and former colleagues of the former FA scribe who went to check on him at the BNI were told he was not in their custody, even though a son of Agrah had confirmed the presence of BNI personnel in their house on Tuesday night.

Agrah has since denied Amadou Tanko's allegations.
