Emos Korblah does it again at Ghana Open

Good old Emos Korblah defended his title as the Ghana Open professionals champion beating off the strong competition put up by Vincent Torgah on Sunday afternoon to retain a title he has now become, like his nickname, landlord over. Korblah has made it a specialty to beat off the best of competition as the one put up by Torgah on Sunday winning by a massive 13 strokes after establishing a 12 point lead on Saturday. Korblah totalled 275 points playing over four days to emerge way clear of nearest challenger Torgah whose otherwise impressive 288 points still fell short.

3rd was recent 2-time MTN Classic winner S.K. Klah who finished with 290 and received GH¢3,000 (three thousand Ghana Cedis) as his prize.

Runner-up Torgah also went home GH¢5,000 (Five thousand Ghana Cedis) richer as prize at the Ghana Golfers Association premier tournament which this year came to the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono for the first time ever.

But the biggest winner of apparently not just the prestige alone was Emos Korblah AKA Landlord who received a massive ten thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000) cash as prize for beating Ghana’s number one golf tournament yet again.

But Korblah, the first African to win the highly competitive Nigeria Open, says he is hungrier than ever to win more laurels. “It’s just hardwork and I’m sure happy to defend my trophy.

It’s my job so I can’t say I’m tired of winning. I just hope to maintain my work rate because the guys are very good. Vincent (Torgah) is good, I’ve been playing with him for the past ten years. We belong to this attempt to make golf popular together and I appreciate the competition,” Korblah told www.sportsinghana.com after claiming his prize.

Co-sponsored by communication giants MTN and Interplast with support from Goldfields Ghana Limited, Coca Cola and Devere Group, there were several prizes in Men’s groups A, B and C, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors categories as well as top-up prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive. Ernest Kofi Owusu who has sworn to win all major golf tournaments in Ghana this year, lived up to his words by claiming the Ghana Open men group A title barely two weeks after winning the Tema Open.

National Sports Authority Security chief Group Captain Gyimah Kwakye won the men group B and received a Blackberry phone and pen, the very prizes received by winners in the various categories. The men group C first prize went to Shettin N with Alfred Quarshie winning the juniors boys division and Dorothy Amoakwa, the girls division champion.

Elsewhere, Jessica Tei continued her winning spree of 2012by topping the ladies competition, edging good old Mona Captan AKA Mrs. Myles-Lamptey with Vetsch Bempong of Achimota claiming the 3rd prize.Credit:
