ENERGIZER Donates ?3M For Walking

The management of Scoo Ltd. sole agents of ENERGIZER BATTERIES and FLASHLIGHTS, has donated a ?3million cheque to VISCO WALKING CLUB at a short ceremony at their office in Accra.

Presenting the cheque, the sales manager Mr. S. G. Hanson said his outfit was extremely elated to be contributing to walking and would not relent a bit, should it be from time to time, called upon to provide yet another helping hand.

The marketing manager went further ahead by appealing to other corporate bodies, to grant walking the needed help it so much deserves.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the club and walkers in Ghana, ace walker Vincent Asumang recalled the history of corporate aid given to the sport way back in 1997, when ENERGIZER sponsored the very first walking competition at Takoradi.

Asumang paid tribute to the company for going great lengths to remit him with monthly allowances then, and offered part sponsorship for a IAAF High Level Racewalking course in Kenya in 1998.

Since then, there have been a number of presentations to the club. The El-Wak Keep Fit Club led by its chairman Mr. Albert Helegbe presented a bag of rice and a quantity of provisions, Alhaji Yankums an executive member of the same club donated a cash amount of ?500,000 while the Ghana Athletics Association chairman Mr. George Lutterodt also donated a bag of rice.

The donations are to help the walkers give off their best at the up-coming World Walking Cup in Italy.

Meanwhile it has been announced that all workers are to get prepared for the Eastern regional 10 km walk is coming on on Friday 30th August at 7 am. That of the Volta region also comes on on the same day at 3.30 pm while that of the Greater Accra comes on on Saturday August 31st at 8 am at he Accra Sports Stadium.
