Dan Dennis Wins GHACEM Open

Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. Dan Dennis, captain of Achimota Golf Club returned 137 net to win this year's seventh annual GHACEM open gold championship played at the Achimota golf course in Accra at the weekend. He was followed by J.A. Kodjo with a net score of 141. S.K. Klah was third with 142 net and Atsu Gouvinus came fourth with 144. In the ladies encounter, Won Kim took the trophy when she beat Mona Captan to the second position on the countback rule after both of them had scored 143 net. Joyce Arkutu lost to Mona on the countback rule while Joe Mukwunyei also lost to Joyce on countback after they had tied at 143 net. In the men's scratch event, E.K. Doe lifted the trophy with 152 gross, E.M. Kwame second with 150 gross and George Kodjo, third with 150 gross. Suzzie Abaloo came first in the ladies scratch event with 166 gross score while Grace Quartey placed second with a gross score of 171. Emos Korblah won the professionals event with 217 gross, Victor Brave-Mensah took the second position with 219 gross and M. Dauda and R.K. Degbe shared the third and fourth positions with 220 gross score each. The three-day handicap event, which formed part of activities marking the 30th anniversary celebration of GHACEM, attracted over 200 golfers. Mr. Dan Dennis, captain of the Achimota golf club, praised GHACEM for the sponsorship. Mr. A.B. Johansen, marketing director of GHACEM who presented prizes, said the company would continue to support sport in general.
