Coach lauds Princesses' comeback spirit

Accra, May 15, GNA - Black Princesses Deputy coach, Ben Forkuo has lauded the team's spirited comeback in their 2-1 win over Nigeria's Super Falcons on Sunday in their 2011 All Africa Games qualifier at the El-Wak stadium in Accra.

Defender Rosemary Ampem's late strike from the spot made the difference as the Princesses qualified 3-2 on aggregate. In a post match interview with GNA Sports, Forkuo said the team's respect for tactics proved crucial to their victory. "They took the advice we gave to them at half time, and they did exactly that. "The girls were hungry for success and their determination paid off," Forkuo said. Head coach Kuuku Dadzie was dumbfounded by the victory over their arch rivals.

"I'm excited and I cannot speak now," Dadzie, a former national star told the GNA Sports after the match.

Playmaker Portia Boakye's added motivation was to mastermind an antidote to the unfamiliar run of most national teams is recent times. "We were determined to qualify and also to erase the bad moments of the other national teams in the minds of all the passionate fans. "We wanted to redeem the image of Ghana football and we thank all for their support," said Portia.

By the victory, the Princesses have booked their place for the eight-team tournament to be held from 3-18 September, 2011 in Maputo Mozambique. Ghana were bronze winners at the last edition held in 2007 in Algeria.
