Chorkor Banku, Tackie Annan make weight for China fights

Raymond Raymond

Raymond ‘Chorkor Banku’ Commey and countryman Tackie Annan have both made weights for their respective title fights on Friday at the Olympic Park Arena in Lu Zhou, China.

WBA Pan-Africa Super Bantamweight champion, Commey (13-2, 7 KOs) weighed in heavier at 53.7 kg against the 55.3 kg of his opponent, Jun Qiu Xiao, ahead of their clash for the WBA International Super Bantamweight title. Commey enters the bout riding an 11-fight winning streak but faces the added pressure of fighting outside of his native Ghana for the first time in his six-year professional career. Xiao is also on an 11-fight win streak, most recently Amor Belahdj Ali in Monaco for the title on the line Friday night.

Tackie Annan (6-2, 6 KOs), on the other hand, weighed 61.6 kg whilst his opponent for the vacant WBC Youth World super Lightweight belt, Bai Shan Bo (6-0-1, 3 KOs), came in much heavier at 62.9 kg. Like Commey, the native Ghanaian will be fighting outside of his homeland for the first time in his professional career. Shan Bo will enjoy the comfort of staying in his country — he appeared focused as the two went face to face in anticipation of their showdown.

The two Ghanaian boxers are in China with their coaches and team, including matchmaker Solomon Otoo Lartey. Stay tuned to Bukomboxingnews.com for all the latest updates on Commey and Annan as they seek to shake China up.
