Chess justifier comes off at Legon on Saturday

Accra, Aug. 15, GNA - The University of Ghana, Legon would hold a Chess Justify-Your-Inclusion exercise at the Students Representative Council's Conference Room on Saturday, August 19. Mr Anthony Tetteh Opai, Head Coach of the University told the GNA Sports on Tuesday that the aim of the exercise is to select a formidable team to represent the university in the forthcoming World Universities Open Chess Championship scheduled for Lagos, Nigeria from August 28 to September 4.

He said even though the exercise is an internal affair, invitation had been extended to students from other sister universities in the country to make a keen event and encourage more students in the country to participate in the game of Chess.

Mr Opai expressed the hope that the university would perform creditable in its maiden appearance to win the biannual event. Meanwhile, the Third National Open Chess Championship will be played at the North Ridge Hotel in Accra on Saturday, September 9. Mr Edward Thompson, Tournament Director of the Ghana Chess Association has therefore urged all interested chess players to make it a point to participate in the championship to show their capabilities.
