The National under 17 team, Black Starlets left the shores of Ghana on Friday for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon ahead of their opener on 14th May.

The Black Starlets planned to leave their camp base in Prampram last Monday but had their plan marred after their flight was postponed due to monetary issues.

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide said: “we have confident that we have a solid team and the technical men have the fullest assurance of the government.”

“We are hopeful in this team because they’re capable of bringing back the cup,” he added.

The Starlets who are in Group A will face Cameroon in their opener, followed by the host Nation Gabon and finish it off with Guinea.

Apart from the last match which will be at Port Gentil stadium, the rest of the group games will be played at the Franceville stadium.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin and his team will now have a week ahead to put their selves in shape for their opener against Cameroon at 19:00 GMT.

The team travelled with 23 players who are hoping to make Ghana proud at the competition as well as technical men and some GFA members.

The U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Gabon 2017 will end on Sunday, May 28th.
