American sports financier made chief

Ahwerase (E/R) Aug. 26,-GNA- Mr. Slantey Zebulon, an African-American philanthropist and sports enthusiast was at the weekend made an honorary citizen of Ahwerase in the Akwapim South District for his contribution to the development of sports in the town.

An honorary certificate was presented to Mr. Zebulon by Nana Oteng, Assembly Member of the area on behalf of the chief, Nana Opoku Ampong II at a colourful ceremony at Ahwerase.

Zebulon who has been a resident of the town for the past six years has been contributing significantly towards the growth of education and sports.

Recently, he donated a set of jerseys and three footballs worth more than 1.2 million cedis and financed the rehabilitation of the town's Day Care Centre at the cost of one million cedis. The presentation was preceded by a football gala between five football teams from Kitase, Aburi, Ahwerase, Obosomase and Tutu. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Daniel Darko, team manager of Ahwesco United advised the players not to indulge in activities that will destroy their football careers.

In the opening match, Awhesco united of Ahwerase defeated Ngonzu-Ngonzo of Tutu by four goals to one, while Aburi Zaragoza beat Obosomase Mighty Warriors 2-1. Kitase Sonny Stars beat Ahwerase Great Immortals 2-1.

Ahwesco United beat Great Immortals 12 goals to 11 in a penalty shoot-out after drawing 2-2 in regulation time in the final match. Present at the gala competition were Nana Opoku Ampong II, chief of Ahwerase, Nana Dankwa, Twafohene, Nana Opare Asamoah, Ankobeahene, Abusuapanyin Kwaku Ansah, Mr. Samuel A. Amoako,Assistant Team Manager and Mr. Asah Atiemo, Coach of Great Immortals.
