The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will be the scene of action this Saturday when hundreds of Armwrestlers converge in the Garden City for the second in the series of regional championships dubbed “Kofikrom Armwrestling Battle”.

The event, organised by United Media and Consult Ltd is under the auspices of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and is expected to attract patrons of Gym and Fitness centers in the Ashanti Region as well as Body-builders and professional Armwrestlers from other parts of the country.

The Kumasi edition comes months after a hugely successful maiden completion in Accra participated by almost 100 youth.

The event is sponsored by pharmaceutical firm, Kofikrom Pharmacy Ltd and aimed at promoting the sport of Armwrestling while encouraging health and fitness among its patrons. The battle will also prepare selected winners to represent Ghana in future international Armwrestling competitions.

Armwrestling is an old sport in Ghana but like many other lesser known sports, it had been neglected for decades until the coming into being of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation last year.

Acting General Secretary of the Federation, Hussein Akuerteh Addy is hopeful of an improved competition in the Ashanti Regional capital this weekend.

“The response from will-be participants has been impressive and we have also put in place adequate measures to ensure the exercise is hitch-free “, he told www.myradio360.com in Accra.
