Adjivon Benefit Race fixed for June 23

Accra, June 9, GNA 96 Organisers of 91Adjivon Benefit Race=92, Dome Cycling Squad, has fixed the 2nd Edition of the event between June 23 and July 1.

The event, which is aimed at increasing the interest of people in ecotourism and creating awareness in the development and maintenance of tourism sites in the country, is expected to receive high patronage from cyclists throughout the country.

According to the organisers, the expected patronage follows the success of the 2005 event, which has whipped up the enthusiasm of many cyclists in the tour.

The event is also aimed at building the 93Mike Adjivon Benefit Race=94 as a valid and credible cycling brand in the country, following the valuable key role Mike Adjivon played in the promotion of cycling in the country.

The event is scheduled to commence at the residence of the late Adjivon, at Laterbiokorshie in Accra and end at the Boti Falls in the Eastern Region.

The tour lasted for two days last year, but has been increased to seven days this year and will take the cyclists through areas such as Dome, Adenta, Akosombo, Koforidua and Suhum before ending at the Boti Falls.

The participants are expected to cover about 800 kilometres within the seven day event.

Interested cyclists are to contact the organisers which will attract a registration fee of 50,000 cedis.

The Mike Adjivon Benefit Race was instituted by the Dome Cycling Squad, in remembrance of the late Mr Adjivon, who is regarded as the father of cycling in Ghana.
