Legendary Ghanaian footballer Abedi Ayew Pele marks his 52nd birthday today.

The three-time African footballer of the year is regarded as one of Ghana’s celebrated footballers due to his immense contribution to the Black Stars team.

Pele, father of Ghanaian internationals Andre Ayew, Rahim Ayew and Jordan Ayew is one of the few Ghanaians to have won the UEFA Champions League title after clinching the trophy with French Club Olympique Marseille in 1993.

Abedi Pele was one of the pioneers of African football in Europe and was one of the first great African players to make an impact on European club football.

He featured for several Clubs including Lyon, Torino and 1860 Munich.

He scored 33 goals in 77 appearances for the Senior National team (Black Stars) from 1982 to 1998 where he brought his international football to an end after the Cup of Nations tournament in Burkina Faso.
