Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made these comments while addressing students of the Jasikan College of Education on Tuesday.
“What is most shocking (and also a clear manifestation of a problem in economic management) is that His Excellency President Mahama clearly does not know the value of exactly how much this NDC government has borrowed in the last eight years. It is so sad that this has even become an issue for debate. Sadly, the two public comments President Mahama has recently made on Ghana’s public debt are patently false and I am sure if His Excellency was properly briefed, he would not subject himself to such embarrassment,” he added.

“I will provide a simple example to explain this point. Assume that the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar today is 1:1 (i.e.,. One cedi equals one dollar). If the government of Ghana borrows GhC 100 today, then the dollar equivalent of the additional debt stock would be $100. Therefore, if the government wants to undertake projects with the loan, it can do $100 worth of projects.
Assume that four years down the road the exchange rate depreciates to 4 cedis to one dollar. This will mean that the GHC 100 that was on the books will now be valued as $25 dollars. This will be the book value of the debt in dollar terms. Notwithstanding the impact of depreciation of the cedi on the dollar value of the debt, it does not mean that four years ago the government did not borrow the equivalent of $100,” he indicated.

SINCE 2013, GHANA HAS BEEN UNDER ARMED ROBBERS....The Ministry of Youth & Sports has allegedly spent a whopping GHC of 429 million on undocumented beneficiaries under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (now Youth Entrepreneurial Agency) in 2013.
Responding to questions from members of the Public Accounts Committee, the Ministry headed by Nii Lantey Vanderpauye and his Deputy Vincent Oppong Asamoah admitted that their outfit contracted some sixteen agencies and service providers to support some 10,000 deprived youth across the country but failed to provide evidence to buttress their claims.
The Committee headed by Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central, Mr. Kwaku Agyaman Manu and other members expressed shocked at what they described as the Ministry’s sluggishness in handling its finances.
The disclosure was made on Tuesday as the committee was probing issues in the Auditor-General report of the Ministry for the year ending 2013. The report stated that the Ministry through GYEEDA blew a whooping amount of Ghc429m on some Ghanaians who were not accounted for during the auditing exercise.
Mr Vanderpuije who took charge of the Ministry barely a month ago explained, “Because I wasn't at post at the time of the audit, I am not in a better position to answer your query. I humbly suggest that you ask my Deputy Minister who has been at post far longer than I have".
Speaking on the same issue, Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah said "there are documents to the effect that the amount under question (ghc429m) was doled out to 16 service providers and other agencies to support some deprived Ghanaians, they are no proper documents as to who they doled out the cash to the beneficiaries ".

"Dogter" Kwarko or whatever the name is, are you saying the mere fact that we have a minister, that should be the end of our social problems pertaining to children? If that is the case then the fact that you are a "dogter" you must also prevent the women of Ghana from falling sick or having OBGY issues. Is that the situation? "Dogter" Kwarko, do you get the analogy am making?

Yes, Nana Oye Lithur is the sector minister but what has the Methuselah member of parliament Hon.Enoc Teye Mensah been doing for all these years that he's been representing the people of that constituency children inclusive. I am sure this issue of fishermen taking advantage of the impoverished girls in the constituency might not have started today. E T Mensah should speak out before he tries hard to bulldoze his way through again to be the representative of the people as if without him then the constituency is doomed. Yes Oye Lithur must work but should not be solely blamed because to all aims and purposes she is one of the proactive ministers in this current dispensation

Teenage pregnancy is even in advanced countries. The matter about teenage sex and pregnancy is a psychological issue and must be handled from that point of view. Let us not try to sack it out as in those old days we use to shout-out disease. A pregnant teenager must feel that she is loved by society. Sex is not a crime and intellectuals who must know better should not criminalize sex.
