Ghana needs such custodians of rich culture and traditions. I hope other chiefs will emulate this action by this visionary chief. The poor in the socity are being burdened with unnecessary costs of funerals. However it is up to us the to support the chiefs so as to bring some kind of sanity into situations where funerals have become big commercial business in Ghana to the detriment of the majority of the society.

I don't think the Chief should dictate to families how they wanna send their loved ones off. No one is forcing anyone to have a lavish one week or funeral celebration, you cut your coat according to your size. If I can afford to say thank you to my mom or dad in a grand style, I will. If I cant afford it--I will keep it low key according to my budget so Nana don't prevent those who can afford to celebrate the life of their passed one.

This is what leadership is meant to be. "Nana nya nkwa daa" This should be the case for any culture in Ghana where the one-week funeral celebration takes place.

This is about traditional and customary rites within a traditional area which falls under the traditional ruler who happens to be the chief. Yes, he has the power to ban any un-traditional activities in his area.

You would think that sensible people will be looking for ways to reduce the cost of funerals since that had already gone through the roof. Instead, we dream up new ways to add to that cost.
This Chief must be commended. This is what our Chiefs are supposed to do - as custodians of our culture, they must lead positive change and help modernise our customs and traditions. This Chief is showing the way and he must be congratulated and supported.

MR FOOLISH CHIEF, GO AND ASK KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE ABOUT THE ESSENCE OF ONE-WEEK CELEBRATION. FIND OUT IF THIS HAS BEEN ABUSED AND SUGGEST THE REMEDIES FOR PREVENTING THE ABUSE.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION, ONE WEEK CELEBRATIONS ARE USED TO PLAN FOR THE FUNERAL OF DECEASED PEOPLE. IT IS AN OCCASION WHERE FAMILY MEMBERS MEET AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE SHARED.
SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY, MR VILLAGE CHIEF, PLEASE SHUT UP. YOU ARE NOT EVEN AN OMANHENE, JUST A SMALL VILLAGE CHIEF AND YOU ARE TALKING BIG
PEOPLE PLEASE IGNORE THIS STUPID AND USELESS CHIEF

Keep on banning the traditions and culture which constitute our identity as Akans to a point where the chieftancy which gives you your authority would become irrelevant. You don't throw away culture and traditions that have sustained us over the years; they're our identity. Rather, we have to modify them to suit the current social political economic conditions to work for us better. "OKOMFO BONE A W'AHWE WO AMA OKOMFO PAPA ABE TO WO NO, YEN YE NO BONIAYE". AKAN NI YE BU NE BE NA YEN SE NO KWASEA. A word to a wise is enough.
