Since ghana independent, cocoa, gold, timber or any other mineral resources in any region did not and was not treated special because it originated. However, my fear is the way politicians rally around for political gain. Using Nduom statement for example, if we're not careful what would happen is a small seed which in future can turn to be big issue.
Learning from our sister countries like Nigeria, Gabon or Cameron where fighting is still going on. I would like to caution both government, chiefs or any independent citizens to be careful.
Think and act what is good for the nation ghana.

Dr York, in as much as the people of the Western region needs attention from the government, we should never under any circumstances, play politics with it. Yes, they need a bit of the oil revenue. But in doing so, we should be very careful not to set a bad precedence. Am not for one, against that.We must be very care. What about other regions that have no natural resources? Let us stop playing politics with such sensitive issues. There are other more important issues affecting your Central region as well. Let's get serious.

Mr Osafo Richard has made a very level headed comments that on the surface should appeal to the chiefs to abandon their demands. But what I I can say is likes " could only be compared with likes" .The cash crops cited in his coments>>>cocoa, coffee, etc have no potential disaster associated with their production. On the contrary, oil production has so many adverse and potential disasters most likely to blight the economy and social lives in the region and obviously its inhabitants. The demand for 10% of the oil revenue to me is not a BIG ask.My concern is, what will they use it for or against. Will that be used for developmental projects or as insurance against disaster?. I think the first should prevail since, I am sure the government, very much aware of the risks involved, would have provided against any eventuality. With regards to what benefits do the producers of cocao etc get from the government, I can argue that that cant be compared with the production of oil and its potentail disaster as outlined in my comments earlier. The government should therefore take note and be bold enough to recognise and provide the needs as requested by the chiefs. This call should not be limited to Dr Ndoum alone but that all MPs in the region should make their voices heard.

All these years that gold is mined at Obuasi, were the people given 10% of Ghana government share? Go and look at the destruction there. Is it realistic for the people Western region alone to receive 10%?

Henceworth all regions must demand 10%of revenues derived from resources obtained in their respective areas. Soon oil will start flowing in other parts of the country and I hope Ndoum principle will apply.Dont compare nigeria to Ghana because Government is actively developing the whole area for the good of all. Stop the cheap politics Mr Ndoum, you are sowing a very dangerous seed.
