You have been neglected. Yes, that is true. What about Afram plains and Northern Volta region. Your area can start developments themselves. Ask the Kwahu people ho develop their area. If you want your area developed, say so. Being a Region and being developed are not necessarily developed. As far as I am concerned, no Region in Ghana is developed anyway. We want 275 Parliamentarians because we want development. We want 20 Regions because we want development. Do more Regions or more Parliamentarians equate to increased revenue for national development? All they do is increase the cost of administering the country without a corresponding revenue generation.

Matters of this nature will never end. Any area that feels “cheated” will call for a region - and that should not be the way forward. Can you imagine if the all coastal regions call for a certain kind of development otherwise no-one will fly out of the country, no goods will leave the seaports for exports, etc?
I appreciate all the concerns raised as I did my National Service in that area – Aowin-Suaman District passing through Enchi, Dadieso over the Bia river (dangerous boat ride) to Oparekrom. What surprised me regarding the nature of the road then was that you had saw-mill, mining and other industries on my way as I travelled to the area for service. So if for over 20 years nothing has changed then it is about time attention was drawn to this under-development.
However, the solution lies solely on a National Development Agenda. When this is done and adhered to by successive governments all regions will definitely be covered, as the agenda cannot be called "national" if all regions are not catered for. Conversely, there might be a need for each region to brainstorm and determine their areas of development interest which will then be fed into a national development policy.
In the meantime, my advice is get all the Chiefs in A-S District to visit Parliament and later the Presidency and put your case across for consideration – not a regional status, but a call for good roads first of all. When the area is open and readily accessible, investors and natives of the district will assist in its development by opening light businesses. With the roads farmers will have their produce carted to the market - resulting in improved earnings, etc. and the general living standard of the people. Remember “access” is number one, the rest is dependent on industriousness of the natives plus other attractions the area has.

As a native of Upper Denkyira West,I find similar deprivations and neglect by successive governments even though like the sefwi area we produce gold, cocoa and timber in abundance.
The problem in my view is that the coastal areas in central and western regions are developed at the expense of the non coastal forest areas.It is called discrimination. How come Cape coast, Winneba, Sekondi/Takoradi are endowed with so many top class schools as well as other facilities while places like Dunkwa on ofin, Wiawso,Diaso and Bibiani have nothing,not even one good all weather road or one good hospital between them.
At the end of the day I think the problem has to do with national politics.The coastal areas have people in high place in the major political parties while the the forest area dont as result of years of deprivation.
Keep the pressure on the government, refuse to cooperate with their overfed appointees and mount mass disobedience protests. In the end stop the plunder of the natural resources by blockading the feeder roads.

The agitation and muscle flexing for a new West North region is opportunistic as well as misguided and misplaced because the entire nation is suffering needlessly for a lack of development. This has come about as a result of political leaders in Accra failure to take the measures that would inspire and accelerate transformation in the lives of its citizens. Just take a look at the filth and the deplorable state of the nation's capital and you'll be left with no doubts on your mind how intense and widespread the rot and decay is. The creation of another region will not necessarily translate into rapid development just as the creation of more parliamentary constituencies has not yet positively impacted the lives of the constituents. It's just asking for more of the same. As a nation, we should rather deviate from the deviant path of conducting our political business and adopt more pragmatic and common sense solutions to the myriad of problems that continue to justify our 3rd world status. Haba! If we reject/shun a first nation status by constantly working against ourselves can't we also work hard enough to elevate ourselves to a 2nd world status?
One solution is a massive decentralization process that will take some of the power away from Accra into the hands of the people at the district level. The country is presently ruled by a cabal. This idea or plan of twisting the arm of the government is wrong and potentially a bad precedent. It has serious and far reaching implications if the government cedes to the demand for the creation of the new state. On the other hand if this single demand, the lone voice in the political wilderness will inspire an entire nation to put politics and tribal affiliations aside and turn the heat on the central government for more transparency and accountability, a massive decentralization policy and increased participation at the grassroot level in the decision making process then so be it. The Sefwi people must not expect support from the government but should rather look elsewhere for support and sympathy/empathy, especially from other parts of the country who share their concerns and turn this into a national movement. This is the only language greedy and incompetent politicians understand.
