But I quite agree that it would be a waste of resources to conduct basic investigations of, for instance, why zebras have striped fur!

Scientific research is the platform under which any country can stand on to develop and push its nation forward. But from independent till now what research has being going on? can one imagined the kind of money poured into research since independent time till date? and what kind of research was done?, why can't we review all these research findings, review how we do research in this county instead of just pouring scares money into drain. Why can we identify the kind of research we want to pour money into, lets narrow our research programs towards needs. Let put up a council or a body to review research proposal before monies is made available. Such research review body must look at top priorities, what can be a game changer not just any thing, we really need to review the way we do things ,the way we research instead of just pouring our monies away in the name of research. For example we can strongly support area in solar since energy has been our major problem and the presence of abundant of sun. Also computer assembling and components. The toner ink because this is widely used and importation and the dollar factor also food production. research in Agric and implementation. Yes, not just any academic research. When a country has so much money like the west they can indulge in any research even going to mars. If our research priorities were right we should have reached some where by now but all those researches are not game changing ideas so they remained on the shelves, no company need them or else would have got sponsorship.

Every year, organize a research exposition day, inviting the President and key government officials. The Expo should include research results that seem promising in solving problems of great national importance.
And bear in mind, it is much easier to talk about grand plans for the future. Please do focus on the past: what actually has been accomplished, with all the research going on.

A lot of people don't know the power that can be unleashed if we assemble two or more physicist, micro biologist etc. together and give them things to work on. We are just living in this country and doing nothing

@jojo thank you for your comment,l also think they could use the name of the university to go for loan from any bank either in Ghana or outside the country to do serious research in whatever area they wish.l think it is becoming outmoded these days when everybody turn to the tax payer for free cash.If the school is competent and internationally competetive as he is making us to believe why don't they go in for funds somewhere to fund their research and sell their patent to companies that wants to buy, there are alot of pharmaceutical firms in ghana,we need simple machines to process our farm produce etc.l am tired of government, government and government.
