Effutu chiefs chase MP

-for peddling lies

The Chiefs and people of Effutu Traditional Area are on the neck of their Member of Parliament, Hon Alex Afenyo-Markins, over allegations of badmouthing the late President John Evans Atta Mills and the former MP for the Effutu constituency, Hon Mike Allen Hammah.

According to the Chiefs and youths of the Effutu constituency, despite the numerous developmental projects the National Democratic Congress government under the leadership of the late President John Atta Mills, through Mr Hammah brought to the area, Hon Afenyo-Markins since he became MP two years ago has not ceased to run them down for doing nothing for the constituency.

At a press conference organized by a youth group calling itself Concerned Citizens of Effutu Constituency over the weekend, which was attended by chiefs and opinion leaders in the area, they warned the MP to concentrate on building on the solid foundation laid by the former MP and also work towards delivering on his numerous promises.
The press conference, which was attended by the Chief of Woarabeba, Neenyi Oboe-Amba; the Omankyeame of Effutu Traditional Area, Simpa Kweku Commey, the chiefs of Ateitu, Atekyedo, Osubonpanyin, Sankor and representatives from other villages in the constituency, according to the organizers was meant to call on Hon Afenyo-Markins to desist from running down the late President and Mr Hammah.
Addressing the media and the people that thronged the Adansi Park to witness the event, spokesperson for the Concerned Citizens of Effutu Constituency, Emmanuel Oboe Baiden, noted that it is on record that during the late Prof Mills era with Hon Hammah in the driving seat as MP, the constituency benefited immensely.
“This constituency under late Prof Mills with the support of Hon Mike Hammah benefited from massive social and educational infrastructure like roads, water, electricity, markets, and schools among others. It baffles us that Hon Afenyo-Markins is going round ranting on radio that these great men did nothing for this constituency,” he noted
Outlining some projects the NDC government undertook when Hon Mike Hammah was MP for the area, Mr Oboe Baiden stated “most of the roads in the Winneba Township were constructed under Mike Hammah. Notable among them is the WINNESEC roads, Low Cost roads, Liberation Square roads, the Akosua village road and several others.”
He said the former MP extended electricity and water to several villages in the area and build a 6-unit classroom block for the Atekyedo community and paid BECE registration fees for over 700 candidates.
“This gesture in that year motivated the pupils to perform very well in the exams. Apart from the construction of some ICT centers, he donated computers and accessories to every Senior High/Technical/Vocational school and other institutions in the area,” Mr Oboe Baiden added.
He said the MIHA Educational Trust Fund, which Hon Mike Hammah established to help needy but brilliant students in the community has been of much help to the constituents, adding that they could not fathom why Hon Afenyo-Markins has decided to bastardize the late President and the former MP with false claims that they neglected the constituency when they were in government.
The chiefs and the youth, however, warned Hon Afenyo-Markins to concentrate on lobbying for the water treatment plant, the setting up of cold stores in fishing communities, the construction of drainage systems and roads for Kojo Beedu, Komfo Addae, Fetteh and Kokobi among others, he promised the people during the 2012 campaign.
