If there are vacancies, why doesn't the MOE advertise and add the reasons why they expect people to move from cities to rural areas? If they let people know the incentives that go with the appointments, don't you think people will go on their own? The so-called redeployment of certain categories of workers to under-served areas has not worked in the past and won't work in the future. Every good thing in Ghana happens in Accra and to some extent, Kumasi.

this trend will get worse over the years, the scraping off of the trainees allowance will give no justification for teachers to be posted to de rural areas.

How can there be surplus teachers when some areas have no teachers? Maybe the title should be surplus teachers in cities?

Also compare the pupil:teacher ratio in the cities and rural areas, shoddy work indeed!

You cant call a teacher (professor) and work in an office. Everybody doing national service is a teacher. Those who has just finish their advance level are teachers.
Dassah there are over million teachers in ghana without jobs.
You dont have to go to teachers training to teach a primary school as far as you can read write, talk and has patience.
The government dont want to educate our children, if not we have teachers. What is wrong pay extra money to the remote areas teachers and building boarding schools in those areas where there are no many children.
