Our economic growth is painfully slow because when it comes to hiring for a job including the job of a President , tribal affiliation will land a person the high profile job much faster than the person's competence. We have only ourselves to blame for being so tone-deaf on competence and expectations at all levels of employment but more especially when it relates to hiring for the highest office in the nation. It appears most people don't know what the office of the president is all about.
I thought it was outrageously absurd when several years ago a prominent Ghanaian musician of international repute described his father as a man who will go to bed with anything that walks on two legs and goes by the name female in a book he wrote but today it has dawned on me that the statement reminisces a behavioral trait of many Ghanaians. We generally don't care a hoot about the consequences of anything we do so long as it gives us a sense of some fleeting pride. A lot of people are ready to sacrifice national development on the altar of a little tribal pride. What a shame!
