Respected voices of reason such as Dr Pianim's ought to be listened to. I came to a similar conclusion sometime ago, looking at a catalogue of errors from the NPP leadership which sadly is still on-going. I also fear that rather than strengthen our democracy, the actions of the NPP following the last elections have rather served to undermine the very democracy they purport to want to protect. Their wrong practical interpretation of constitutional provisions relating to the actions and functions of the president is quite worrying.
Few begrudge their resorting to the Supreme Court to seek redress but they should have left it at that and admonished their supporters (and so-called spokespersons and the numerous "directors of communication" ) to show the government the necessary respect and support national development efforts. Their behaviour, and that of their supporters is setting the nation back and as I have said before, I hope the fair-minded and neutral electorate are taking note. Unless they change course and recognise the institutions of state and take part in its affairs, I see no reason why they should be considered a credible opposition, let alone a potential government. I say this not in support of the NDC government, but as a person concerned with respect for the rule of law, the legislature and government however we may disagree with the incumbent.

And, even if, Nana Akuffo Addo and the petitioners together with the rest of the NPP members are wrongly challenging the elections, it will go a long way to strengthen democracy and also serve as a warning to all political parties, the Electoral Commission and the future Chairman of the Electoral Commission!
The lesson would be that if you, the Chairman of the electoral commission becomes corrupt and condone and conninve with any political party to rig elections, you would be exposed, because any aggrieved citizen of Ghana would petition at the Supreme Court.Democracy is then strenghtened.
As the adage goes,
"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely", how do Ghanaians know whether or not all the previous elections conducted by Dr. Afari Gyan, the omnipotent, was honestly and faithfully contested?
Ghanaians would know this truth from this petition!

However, no democracy can sustain without honesty and truth. In all solid democracies election malpractice are duly investigated and the truth unravelled. Some of such investigations are dealth with at the local and middle levels. Some end up in courts. It is therefore important to let the judicial system investigate and deal appropriately with the allegation. It is a cheap shot from Mr. Mpiani to brand this court case as waste of time and futile. The same behaviors of "gyai ma enka" he employed while in government and gave power to the NDC is the same behviors he is exhibiting. Mpiaani can mount his individual platform and tout the good jobs the NPP did while in power and let others pursue other ventures. And again, Mpiani can simply keep mute and pursue his application for regional and continental positions. He should not use this case to let the outside world recognize him as peace-loving, intellectual, better-than-thou, person.

Far from it! If Pianim wasn't thinking lazily, he would realise that NPP has to return to the drawing board to reinvigorate the party, yes - but the party's representatives also have to fight this point of principle because otherwise it will be pointless fighting any election to come, whether in 2016 or in 2020.
If the government of the day controls the election machinery and can present the country with any old result it chooses and force Ghanaians to swallow it, what is the point of pretending we have a democracy?

One of the things we all know is that we are not perfect creatures - wives cheat on their husbands, husbands cheats on their wives, children lie, and we are somehow corrupt. But we also know that our ballot sustem can only be rigged by no more than five percent which statistically is insignificant to alter the real trend. If you don't uderstand this statistical and mathematical point then you are mentally and intellectually behind the curve.
I know that because I used to work for the electoral commission, I am a statistician, and most of all I Ghanaian and I know the people like the back of my hand.
In Statistics; we have what is called margin of error. If number of corrupt votes fall within that nargin then it is not significant enough to change the results.
NPP failed to use this tried and tested technical knowledge which is used in quality control in manufacturing etc etc. Hense their intellectual and mental laxitude.
Don't forget that the election was declared free and fair by international as well as local observers. Do you think those observers were also bought by the President and the electoral commission?
Nana Addo was aware that he was most probably going to lose the election - he refused to sign the peaceful election accord organized by the Asanteheni before the election signaling that he would not comply with the results.
Then all parties have reresentatives at each polling station to call attention to any malfeasance while it is ongoing not after the rsults have been announced.
Akuffo Addo also showed intellectual laziness in declaring the results in his favor contrary to the law- only the electoral commission declares results.
So YAa, do not display intellectual and mental laziness yourself by failing to grasp the tenents of democracy. The system is not perfect and any move to improve it is welcome, but a move to disrupt it is counter-productive. That is what some members of the NPP are doing.
