Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko qualifies to serve as Attorney General in a future Akufo-Addo administration, political science lecturer Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has said.

Dispelling what has been termed the 'Akyem Mafia' in the New Patriotic Party, Dr Amoako Baah told Class91.3fm’s Executive Breakfast Show host, Ekow Mensah-Shalders, on Monday April 11 that the fact that Mr Otchere-Darko is an Akyem just like his uncle Nana Akufo-Addo, who also happens to the be the NPP's flagbearer, does not mean he (Gabby) cannot serve in an administration of his kith.

"Look at this situation: Nana Addo is Akyem; he has someone like Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko; Gabby is a lawyer; and I think he is a good lawyer. Why can't Gabby be Attorney General if Nana wins? Why not? He’s his nephew and he knows him, why can't he do it?” Dr Amoako Baah asked.

"I mean, that is how it's done everywhere. The people around you, if they are qualified, you should give them a try. I mean they are the immediate circle around you, they helped you win," Dr Amoako Baah added.

He, however, noted that if such people are assessed to be failing in their roles, they must be changed.

On the other hand, however, Dr Amoako Baah said at least 60 per cent of key government positions are currently being filled by northerners, a situation he criticised as unhealthy. "Right now as I'm talking, the government positions in this country, key positions, I'll bet more than 60 per cent is filled by northerners. I'm not saying that is good, that is not good at all. But if he [Mr Mahama] feels comfortable with this person as an adviser, why should he go and get a total stranger he doesn’t know?" Dr Amoako Baah said.
