The third wave of migrating doctors has actually just began, as the phenomenon is correlated with economic conditions (among other factors), which have been poor in the last 5 years or so.
Please tell us how many doctors from the graduating class of 2010 for example who have travelled abroad and those who stayed in Ghana?

They should be made to finance themselves forthwith, under reasonable fees collected from patience or customer with special consideration to financial background of their clients. I have a plan of aportionment for management of the hospitals.

I do think that the brain drain have decreased in a way. The opportunities in specialist training have contributed in a small way to this however I think the phenomenon has been largely due to decrease opportunities and increased competition for doctors to practice abroad. The UK used to be the first settlement area for Ghanaian doctors however opportunities for them are now mostly non-existent with the strict EU rules for non-EU-residents to secure training positions. Countries such as the US, Canada and Australia which use to also be a fertile ground for doctors have increased their medical school enrolment in addition to increased competition for residency positions from other countries. All these have reduced the demand for Ghanaian doctors. I think these external forces for by a large margin reduced the doctor brain drain. If there was the demand, with the current economic conditions in the country, the brain drain would have been worse.
