If you are that concerned about what goes into the body then NEVER eat the meat of any animal that eats other animals. They consume the blood too, and you eat them as well. After all he is the giver of life and prefers obedience not sacrifice, he can give back our life in the resurrection if we should lose it through obedience . Have u heard of parenteral nutrition, that is food through veins, we will not literally eat blood but injected through our vein to save a life just as food through a vein saves life..are the two different? JWs are wrong! They are following the devil's idea! Transfusion is not the same as eating blood. When you eat blood, it becomes food that digests in the stomach and goes on ti build body tissue. With transfusion, the blood does not become food that builds body tissue! It only performs the life-saving function of carrying oxygen to the crucial organs of the body whilst the body recovers to its own normal level of blood supply. Let everyone know, especially the JWs, that after three months, every single cell of blood anyone receives from a donor dies and is removed from the patient's blood stream by the liver and the kidneys. Not a single cell of the transfused blood ever becomes part of the body mass of the patient, as would have happened if he had eaten the blood as food. Ignorance, stupidity and bigotry are causing religious zealots to help destroy precious lives needlessly whilst the devils laughs in hell!

Fluids infusion would not do it, neither would any medication. So this is not about the incompetence of any Ghanaian doctor. I would only say the lady committed suicide under the guise of her right to refuse medical care and that of freedom of worship. That simple!

It was within her rights, as an individual, to refuse treatment offered and it's unfortunate that other efforts that must have been made to preserve her life failed. I do not believe the people responsible for her care at that hospital were ignorant of alternatives to blood in resuscitation. The main issue here is availability. The health service can barely stock enough essential medicines for the general population for whom, mind you, colloids are not essential. It is a great failing on the part of our health service that this woman could not be saved in spite of whatever heroic efforts went into her care. I would however not lay blame at the feet of her attendants without the benefit of the full picture. Thanks.

Because of this risk, hospitals are starting to use men's and women's plasma differently."
She had any right to refuse blood! I would do exactly the same! Out of rel. beliefs, but also out of scientific knowledge! In Cardiff (UK) is the largest blood research centre of UK. Their statement: We are not afraid, of the 3000 know blood [viruses], we are afraid of the once, we don`t know yet! It is an fact, that the bible cleary says - don`t put anything in to your body, what came out of your body, but also many, many people died later or became very ill, from blood transfusion - to name just Hepatitis, HIV, different kind of fevers and so on! Beside, the largest killer is, that people are not compatible to the given blood... and just die out of that!
What Are the Risks of a Blood Transfusion?
Example: Allergic Reactions
Allergic reactions can be mild or severe. Symptoms can include:
- Anxiety
- Chest and/or back pain
- Trouble breathing
- Fever, chills, flushing, and clammy skin
- A quick pulse or low blood pressure
- Nausea (feeling sick to the stomach)
Viruses and Infectious Diseases
Some infectious agents, such as HIV, can survive in blood and infect the person receiving the blood transfusion.
- HIV.
- Hepatitis B and C. If you receive blood during a transfusion that contains hepatitis, you'll likely develop the virus.
Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). This disease is the human version of Mad Cow Disease.
- Fever
Some blood banks remove white blood cells from whole blood or different parts of the blood. This makes it less likely that you will have a reaction after the transfusion.
- Iron Overload - Iron overload can damage your liver, heart, and other parts of your body.
- Lung Injury - blood transfusions can damage your lungs, making it hard to breathe.
Most patients recover. However, up to 25 percent of patients who develop lung injuries die from the injuries.
Doctors aren't completely sure why blood transfusions damage the lungs. Antibodies (proteins) that are more likely to be found in the plasma of women who have been pregnant may disrupt the normal way that lung cells work. Because of this risk, hospitals are starting to use men's and women's plasma differently.
- Acute Immune Hemolytic Reaction, Acute immune hemolytic reaction is very serious, but also very rare. It occurs if the blood type you get during a transfusion doesn't match or work with your blood type.
- Delayed Hemolytic Reaction, Both acute and delayed hemolytic reactions are most common in patients who have had a previous transfusion.
- Graft-Versus-Host Disease, Symptoms start within a month of the blood transfusion. They include fever, rash, and diarrhea.

It is an interesting collection of information on the complications of blood transfusion you have presented here. I, however, do not believe anyone makes the decision to transfuse blood on a whim or because of excess stock: most blood banks in Ghana have low stocks for the population they serve. It is true that blood transmitted infections are a real problem with transfusions. The risk however is significantly less when blood is sourced from voluntary blood donors. Let's be real here, the risk of something like vCJD in Ghana is so low we might as well leave that to academic deliberation. Allergic and other immune-related reactions to transfusions may result from the differences in substances we may have introduced into our bodies at any point in time (some even by merely breathing). The risk of allergic reactions therefore largely depends on the individual's immune response to various substances and it has been observed that removing white cells appears to reduce the risk of some immunologic reactions. Also unless the individual needs multiple and frequent transfusions, iron overload is highly unlikely. You have raised some interesting points about the risk of infection from blood and that is laudable. It is however untrue that exposure to hepatitis B or C implies you are going to get the disease come what may ( I make this statement advisedly as I understand that not all appreciate the fact that the mere introduction of a pathogen into one's body does not equate to having the disease). And the doctors wanted to save her life because it was their duty. That was also a fact. So the general and hypothetical reactions you list of blood do not come into play here. Just watch TV. There are even medicines that come along with so many side effects you may not even consider taking them. The same with surgery. Doctors are required to list all the risks involved in performing for example heart surgery, including death. But is that reasons enough not to perform the surgery if they thought it could save the patient. And how many people have died resulting from heart surgery that would require abolition of such?
