This is a interesting article from a Dietician, but I must highlight certain aspects of it for the benefits of the readers on this forum to debate.
Iron is very important for the optimum fuctions of the human body, so therefore I think it is very important that we should all consider the pros & cons of what we consume to get all the necessary vitamins & minerals to maintain a healthy life.
Knowing 1st hand the the health dangers of eating EGGS & (Imported)MILK products, I find it difficult to accept the authors advise in the paragraph below.
"For best benefit in terms of iron absorption therefore, it is better to eat animal based foods such as meat, milk, eggs and their products. Care should, however, be taken during the intake of these animal foods."
1st Point
The eggs sold in ghana is lacking of iron (GM Fowls) compare to those fowls that roam freely.
2nd Point
Here is a partial list of Earth food that is high in Iron which is included in our varied dishes that has no Side effects or health dangers what-so-ever.
Garden Eggs Iron 0.24 mg
Banana Iron 0.3 mg
Maize Iron 0.52 mg
Yams Iron 0.54 mg
Plantain Iron 0.60mg
Eggs Iron 0.74 mg
Sorgum Iron 2.99 mg
Millet Iron 3.94 mg
Beans Iron 4.0mg
Peanuts Iron 4.98mg
Let us be objective of our informed choices of what we feed ourselves to enable us to live a long healthy life-span.

Heme-iron, as found in animal sources as the liver, is what is easily absorbed by the human body. Even then, the absorption requires a little help from ascorbic acid.

A half cup of corn contains roughly the following nutrients:
Eggplant is also an excellent source of dietary fiber, which can help protect against type 2 diabetes and keeps the digestive system regular. The vitamins in eggplant consist primarily of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene), B vitamins, folate and vitamin C. Eggplant is also rich in minerals, boasting a large quantity of potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorous. With no fat, six carbs and 27 calories in a 1-cup serving, eggplant makes an excellent addition to any diet and is easily absorbed by the human body.

Most of the over-the-counter iron supplements are iron salts (ferrous sulphate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, etc), and tend to cause some gastrointestinal irritation in most people. Others experience constipation.
Those with ELEMENTAL iron, like Feosol, lack such gastrointestinal side effects.
The better still are those with elemental iron PLUS vitamin C (like Vitron C) to facilitate absorption.
But, all the above are still NON-HEME iron.
Luckily today, we have BIFERA, which contains HEME iron. (The company that makes Feosol felt threatened and aquired BIFERA. So, you'll see "FEOSOL-BIFERA" on the package).
Bifera is what everyone needs, but is quite expensive.
Iron overdose can be fatal and must be kept out of the reach of children.
Cheap home remedy: some cooked liver with boiled cabbage.

There are 3 known methods of discerning someone lacking in Iron without testing their blood.
1. Black eye bags below the eye.
2. White spots on the finger nails
3. Weak knee & constantly feeling
tired.
If the subject has neither 'Black eye bags' or White spots on the nail then they would be advised to collect their 1st Stool of the morning for examination.
What I would be looking for in the stool is the colouration.
If the stool is pale brown in colour then the subject is lacking in Iron.
But if it is dark brown with a near black colour along the contours then the subject has suffient Iron in their system.
Women of menstrual age tends to require more Iron intake due to the high amount of Iron they normally lose during their menstrual cycle.
Alway check your 1st stool in the morning.
Try and eat a couple of bananas or plantain in your last & first meal of the day to keep your Iron levels up.
No need to waste your money on supplement tablets.

Coffee drunk simultaneously or 1 hour after eating inhibits iron absorption. However, when drank 1 hour before meal, there is no absorption inhibition.

Thank you so much Doc. for calling our attention may God richly bless you for this lights for us. By the way have you, taken a step to our producing centers to see how all these animals and vegetations are being kept?? If all this good vegetables and animals receives bad growth, it can give very serious health problems (useing gutter water with shits, oils from cars, and all kinds of things, name them like in Katamato) it can affect our health animals roaming about eating anything and every thing drinking form everywhere, spinat growing around toilets places, farmers sending them to the market just to make money. No hyginic treatments to the animals. Just because we cook our meals is not the solution to sickness, some bacteria can stand higher heat.As if they are dead but not.Doc I still thank God for you but still, please move more further to help us Thank you.
