Every four years Ghanaians spend huge sums of cedis to elect members of Parliament to represent their constituencies. These representatives are law makers and they enact laws to guide our behaviour toward one another. In effect the Republican nation in which we reside is of laws, and barbaric and primitive acts such as lynching thieves does not fit who we are as human beings. Those acts belong to our fur four-legged friends somewhere in Serengeti game park East Africa.
Why the Ghana media has not condemn this primitive and backward act is beyond me, with a tacit approval of our elected officials who duty it is to maintain law and order in society. A few weeks ago, a light-skin lady was accused of stealing some money at Kejetia in Kumasi and was gruesomely attacked by some brutes and jackals with human skin. How do we reconcile this primitive and backward act with our democratic credential as a nation where law and order are supposed to predominate? As barbaric and primitive as the Kejetia incident, not the Asantehene nor any political leader has come out to condemn the wanton assault on the fair skin lady. Are we animals? You must be a brute to say "lynch them" whoever you are.
