Can someone tell me the total cost of locking up these two guys who pose no danger to society whilst criminals and armed robbers are walking about scot free?
Monkey mentality will keep us ever poor. think of the resources wasted on prosecuting these guys - labour cost(police, lawyers, other staff), logistical cost of transporting them, lost productivity of these guys, court resources, cost of locking them up in prison including accommodation and feeding. Putting these all together we are looking at a conservative estimate of $100,000 per person jailed over the two years or so. A total loss to the state of about $300,000.00 just to lock 3 people up for possessing weed. The interior minister the other time had a sensible idea of imposing non-custodial sentences. But as the minister's call gets louder and louder, our zombie police keep piling up the problem by finding and arresting petty criminals whose activities are so benign to the state that it is better to leave then alone and rather feed the hungry people instead. It is stupid!
