Man remanded for defiling 13-year-old girl

An auto-technician accused of defiling a 13-year-old girl has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu.

Baba Ali, 58, pleaded not guilty and would make his next appearance on August 12. Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the court that the incident happened at Aboabo-Number One in Kumasi.

He said the victim and her aunt had gone to the house of the accused at about 1430 hours on July 24. There, the girl misbehaved and when the aunt attempted to discipline her, Ali intervened to restrain the woman and took the victim to his room under the guise of counseling her.

However, he allegedly inserted his finger into her vagina and warned her not to tell anybody about it, and gave her Ghc5, with a promise of an additional Ghc5.

The prosecution said two days thereafter, the girl, whilst on errand for the aunt met Ali, who tricked her to follow him to his room for the rest of the money but instead, he forcibly had sex with her.

The girl, who bled from the sexual assault, the prosecutors said, broke the news to the family.

The case was reported to the police Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU), and Ali was arrested.

Doctors in a signed report, after examination and treatment, confirmed that she has indeed been defiled, the prosecutor said.
