Shocking pictures of the men accused of murdering Lee Rigby as they challenged armed police have emerged today.
These stills, taken from video footage shown in court, show Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, wielding deadly weapons after allegedly killing and mutilating the Fusilier.
One of the images shows Adebowale raising his gun at the officers even after he had been shot in the leg and stomach, forcing the officers to shoot him in the hand - blowing off his thumb.

Armed officers told to the jury they 'feared for their lives' when the suspects 'launched at them' wielding knives, a meat cleaver and a revolver, the Old Bailey heard today.
A policewoman – known only as D49 – said she was in the driver’s seat of an armed response car when Michael Adebolajo, 28, came within a yard of her door making ‘a chopping motion’.
Unable to pull out her Glock pistol in time because of her position in the vehicle, she described how she feared death was imminent.

Adebolajo was then shot with an assault rifle by her colleague, known as E48, from the back of the car. CCTV footage showed how the bullets sent the terror suspect crashing to the ground.
In a statement read by prosecutor Richard Whittam, QC, at the Old Bailey, the woman officer said: ‘I instantly thought, “he’s going to kill me”. I went to draw my Glock. Due to my position in the car, the internal door has a panel jutting out. I could not immediately draw my Glock out due to this.
‘I could still see the look in the suspect’s eyes. They were so wide and I could see the whites of them.
'He was shouting something.’

Once Adebolajo had been shot, she got out of the car and fired her Taser stun-gun at him, the jury heard.
Moments later she faced more horror when suspected accomplice Michael Adebowale was said to have aimed a gun at the officers. She added: ‘I thought “Oh my God he’s going to shoot me”. I feared for my life.’
The prosecution say the suspects ran Fusilier Rigby down at 40mph and then 'almost decapitated' him, before waiting for police to arrive so they could kill them on May 22 this year.
Giving evidence yesterday, E48 said officers had ‘very little time’ to react when Adebolajo ran at them.
‘He almost instantly broke into a sprint and I realised we were being attacked,’ he said. ‘He was coming at us.’
The officer said his colleague, D49, was left ‘essentially unable to defend herself’, with just a pane of glass to protect her. ‘It was not ballistic glass,’ he said.
‘The second he started sprinting at us still in possession of that knife I made the decision to fire and until he fell away from the vehicle I was still in the frame of mind and I needed to take that decisive action to stop him.’

The officer then turned his attention to Adebowale, who was lying on the ground after being shot by one of his colleagues.
‘He raised one of his arms up,’ E48 said. ‘I’ve still got a distinct image in my mind of him holding a black revolver in his hand which I clearly saw, which struck me as unusual because he’d just been shot.
'The next two shots shot his thumb off [on the] hand holding the weapon.’
Once both the terror suspects posed no further threat, E48 used a first aid kit from the police car to treat Adebowale.
He added: ‘Once the threat is neutralised we have a duty of care to all persons to save life, no matter who they are.’

Earlier today a paramedic who tried to save Lee Rigby after he was run down and almost decapitated said one of the soldier's killers stood 'sharpening his meat cleaver' as he and his accomplice waited to attack police, the Old Bailey heard today.
Daniel Middleton was the first medic to arrive on the Woolwich street where the soldier died on May 22, but was stopped from helping him, the jury was told.
Both deny murdering Fusilier Rigby, as well as counts of attempted murder of a police officer and conspiracy to murder.

Mr Middleton, who arrived alone, said in a statement read to the jury today: 'As I approached I saw a body on the ground in the middle of the road. I also saw a black male. He had what appeared to be two meat cleavers in both hands.
'The motions he was making appeared as if he was sharpening the meat cleavers.
'I was held in position from a police officer until confirmation came through the scene was safe to approach.'

Witness Vikki Cave said they were planning to attack police as she spoke to the two men just metres away from Fusilier Rigby's body.
Prosecutor Richard Whittam QC said Ms Cave was driving down John Wilson Street in Woolwich when she saw Drummer Rigby in the road.
She said: 'I was next to the body, only a few metres from the male.

'I spoke to them - "are you going to hurt us?"
'He said "The women and children are safe, you need to keep back when the police and soldiers get here".
'They then started shouting about religion and Afghanistan and the damage other soldiers have done.'
Both men were shot as they charged armed police at the scene.
When Ms Cave first arrived, she spoke to another woman on the ground next to Fusilier Rigby and said she was 'around to help' as she was first-aid trained.
Ms Cave said: 'She said "There's nothing that can be done. He's gone".'
Ms Cave said one of the men claimed the attack was 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth'.
Michelle Nimmo was driving along Artillery Place in a Vauxhall Antara with her baby in the back and mother, Tina Nimmo, in the front passenger seat.
In a statement, Ms Nimmo said one of the alleged attackers had a 'smirk' on his face and both men appeared 'proud'.
Ms Nimmo described seeing the two men leaning over the soldier clutching knives and a meat cleaver.
In a statement read to the Old Bailey she said: "These men began repeatedly attacking the man with knives. They were chopping him all over.
'I shouted to my mum to get back because I was worried about her safety, but she wanted to help the man on the floor.
'Then I saw the men drag the man's body into the road and continue chopping at him and kicking him in his side.
'I wanted to help the man on the floor, but any attempts to get close they would threaten or gesture with the knives or the gun. They looked very proud of what they had done...they had evil in their faces.

Before Adebolajo, 28, and his alleged accomplice Michael Adebowale, 22, right, were gunned down by armed officers, jurors were told he passed a handwritten note to a bystander.
It read: 'To my beloved children know that to fight Allah's enemies is an obligation. The proofs of which are so numerous that but a handful of any of them cuts out the bewitching tongues of the Munafiqeen.
'Do not spend your days in endless dispute with the cowardly and foolish if it means it will delay you meeting Allah's enemies on the battlefield.
'Sometimes the cowardly and foolish could be those dearest to you so be prepared to turn away from them.
'When you set out on this path do not look left or right.
'Seek Shaheedala oh my sons so that you might be raised together and if its Allah's decree that you are not to be in the hearts of green birds.
'Then be ready for to enter the University of Joosuf. Sijn. Be patient there and be firm there and inshallah you will meet your Lord with him pleased with you.
'Verily Allah is with those who are patient.
'If I live beyond this day and you find me talking other than this then know that perhaps Allah has left me to stray.

'A man tried to help the victim but the men kept waving knives and guns. Some young boys were taking photos on their phones.
'The male with the knife held it up so they could take photos of him and when he turned round he had a smirk on his face.'
Miss Nimmo said she noticed two women approach Mr Rigby's body to check if he was still alive.
She said: 'One woman was kneeling down. She was irate and appeared to be telling the attackers off but they didn't threaten her like they did everyone else.'
The mum, who had her baby in her car with her at the time, said Mr Rigby was so covered in blood that at first she thought he was black.

Her mother Tina Nimmo broke down in tears as she gave evidence in the trial.
She told the court she could see the men chopping at the Fusilier on the floor and raised her hand up and down in a stabbing motion to demonstrate it.
'I got out the car and shouted to them to stop,' she said.
Richard Whittam QC, prosecuting, asked: 'Did they stop?'
'No,' she replied.
'Did you see the body being pulled into the road?' the prosecutor continued.
At this point the witness got visibly upset as she answered: 'Yes I did.' Her voice shook as she told the court how she tried to keep people back from the scene for their safety.
She also described the attackers looking 'very proud with what they had in their hands'.

POLICE OFFICER HAD FIGHT WITH WITNESS AFTER RIGBY 'MURDER'
Witness Graham Wilders today described a confrontation between a passer-by and a policeman who had arrived at the scene.
He said the pair fought in the street because the officer said he must wait for the armed response team to arrive and disarm the suspects.
'He was mouthing off to the police officer, asking why the police were not doing anything,' Mr Wilders said.
'The police officer was fighting him.
'I said "F****** go up there and take the gun off him".
'He then turned and went into his block of flats.'
She went on: 'Throughout the attack, the two men had an evil look on their face.
'They stood around looking proud and posing with the gun and knives. They made no attempt to run away.'
The court heard a statement from Sarah Riordan, a heavily pregnant woman near the scene who described experiencing 'contracting pains' as the events unfolded.
After the police arrived, she heard gunshots and took refuge behind a number 53 bus.
'I started having contracting pains every two or three minutes,' she said. 'I tried to get on the bus but the driver wouldn't let me on.'
Another bus driver, in a number 291 bus, opened the door and invited her on board and told Ms Riordan to get her 'head down'.
At one point, she described shouting at the bus driver because of the 'pain of the contracting'.
'Eventually a police woman said everything was OK,' she said.
Ms Riordan was taken to hospital for a check-up, the jury heard. She said: 'Fortunately everything was all right with my baby and me.'

An armed police officer thought one of Lee Rigby's alleged murderers was going to kill her as he charged at her with a machete, a jury has heard.
The officer, identified only as D49, said in a statement that she 'instantly' thought she would die when Michael Adebolajo, 28, ran towards the BMW X5 she had driven to Woolwich in the aftermath of the soldier's death.

The entire Kyekyewere community in the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality in the Western Region was thrown into a state of shock when a resident of the community beheaded his four-year-old stepdaughter.
The suspect, identified as Kwesi Qaison, 45, was said to have beheaded the stepdaughter, Effua Otoo, for ritual purposes, but an angry mob lynched him afterwards.
After beheading the girl, Qaison wrapped the head in a plastic bag and headed for the lorry station.
But the bloodstains on his trail led a passer-by to locate the headless body of the girl in a room.
The passer-by then shouted for help, resulting in neighbours giving Qaison a hot chase to the lorry station.
Although the suspect had boarded a vehicle, some passengers alerted the driver to stop, since there was a mob chasing the vehicle.
When the vehicle pulled up, Qaison was mercilessly beaten up by the mob before being handed over to the police, who then rushed him to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.
The bodies of the little girl and Qaison have been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, while the police continue their investigations.
Little Otoo’s mother, stunned by her husband’s action, collapsed after she had been told of what had happened to her daughter.
When contacted, the Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Paul Ayitey, said the police expected Otoo’s mother to help the police in their investigations when she regained consciousness.

Ghana has declared a state of emergency in a northern town after a tribal chief and around 25 of his guards were killed in factional clashes, police and witnesses reported on Wednesday.
The fighting, which began on Monday, is part of a long-running dispute over the traditional chieftaincy in Yendi, 50 miles north of the provincial capital Tamale.
An information ministry statement said that the tribal chief Yakubu Andani -- the Ya-Na or Paramount Chief of the Dagombas of northern Ghana -- and some of his associates had been killed during overnight fighting.
Private radio station Joy FM quoted witnesses in Yendi as saying that the Ya-Na had been beheaded and the bodies of him and around 25 of his bodyguards set on fire. His palace had also been destroyed, they added.
Police sources confirmed the estimates, but could not give definite casualty figures.
Police reinforcements and soldiers have been sent to the area to enforce a dawn-to-dusk curfew imposed on Monday, but witnesses in the town said sporadic shooting had continued even after they arrived and Yendi remained tense on Wednesday.
Local radio stations said many residents had fled the fighting.
