So these guys are investors from Nigeria coming to add value to our economy? You have come all the way from Kano or Enugu or Port Harcourt to Ghana just to sell mobile accessories? So the ordinary Ghanaian petty trader is facing stiff competition from foreigners? What is the Ministry of Trade & Industry doing to protect Ghanaian petty traders from this Nigerian and Chinese invasion? In every functioning nation, there are businesses solely reserved for locals, like petty trading, running of taxis, filling station,etc. Investors who want to do business in Ghana are welcome but they must go through the process- must come with $300,000, and the ministry will assist you to secure work and residence permits. Frankly, the government must enforce the immigration and labour laws very well to fish out criminals who have found refuge in Ghana due to our porous laws and borders, and the so-called ECOWAS treaty. We really have to revisit this ECOWAS stuff before we are swallowed up by fraudster, crooks, prostitutes and drug-traffickers from neighbouring countries.
As a Political Science student (MPhil/PhD)am working on my POL 714 assignment on the securitization of migration in Europe, and I understand why the EU countries are very tough on illegal immigrants in Europe. They come with a lot of baggage that will threaten the internal security of the state.
I've been living and working (studying)in this country (---) for more than a decade with valid residence and work permits, but as a foreigner, the law of the land does not allow me to sell even sweets/candies on a table in front of my house- I tell you the law enforcement agencies will come after you and you'll pay a hefty fine. Yea, in some parts of the world the law actualy works and people obey the law, but not in my country Ghana- which is fast becoming a failed state. It's very unfortunate!!
