The department resposible for road safety should put up low (25-30 mph) speed limt signs along the trunk roads that run through towns and villages. The police must also ensure the drivers comply with the mandatory speed limits. My heart goes out to the victims. May their tiny souls rest in heavenly peace.

Well, this is an accident, but I think still more should be done with our roads, in this case, highways which pass through towns should have proper speed limit as you get to the town, speed limits should be enforced, and such danger spots should be fenced and pedestrians given another option or path for them to cross to the other side. Such accidents remain unacceptable.

Ghana is leaderless. Because of the lack of effective government transport policies, murderous drivers have been slaughtering passengers and pedestrians for decades.
Most Ghanaian commercial drivers are illiterate or elementary school dropouts, that's a fact. Most drivers are alcoholics, that's a fact. Most drivers buy their driving licences, that's a fact. Most drivers exceed road speed limits, that's a fact. Some drivers are too visually or physically impaired to drive, that's a fact. Most commercial vehicles on our roads have been grossly altered beyond manufacurers' specifications rendering them road unsafe, that's a fact. Police routinely take bribes from drivers and ignore traffic infringements, that's a fact. The majority of vehicles on our roads do not comply with road worthiness regulations, that's a fact. Most commercial vehicles routinely overload with passengers and goods making them unwieldy and dangerous, that's a fact. Do I need to go on?
In civiliced countries where law-makers know the value of human life, measures are continuously pursued to prevent accidents. In Ghana, no one cares.
Anyone with a bit of grey matter in their skull would know that the wearing of SEATBELTS saves lives. In Ghana, they are chopped off. Anyone with commonsense knows that overloading renders vehicles uncontrollable. In Ghana, greedy transport owners/drivers and indifferent corrupt police/officials don't care about the scores that are murdered on our roads by the day.
In view of the fact that we have many problems, as outined above, it will be prudent for the maximum speed limits on our major roads to be set at 50 mph. In built up areas, speed limit should be between 20 and 30 mph. Drivers exceeding these limits should be fined heavily.
Anyone who does not believe that speed kills is a MORON.
