Several years ago a lady colleague of mine and friend told me a chap from a Moslem Asian country was very interested in her. She came from a Greek Orthodox Christian background. She asked what I thought of it. She was aware that he was a practicing Moslem. I was shocked at her lack of knowledge about Islam. I asked how she would expect to raise her children and she quickly answered "as Orthodox Christians"! I advised her to ask the gentleman these questions. She contacted a Moslem female colleague at my behest and was horrified to discover that her prospective spouse could marry up to 4 wives if he chose to do so. Her Moslem friend strongly advised against her developing relationship. She later thanked me for encouraging her to think through these issues. She is now happily married to a Hungarian chap of Eastern Orthodox Christian background and they long ago relocated to Budapest. Years before this case another female colleague from a strong Catholic background was dating a Sikh colleague but had to terminate the relationship when they couldn't agree on how their children would be raised and the marriage ceremony. His parents also strenuously opposed the relationship. RELIGION DOES MATTER!!
