Tyson Sarfo runs away from opponent

Kumasi, May 28, GNA- There was drama at a boxing extravaganza at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, on Friday night when under bizarre circumstances, lightweight boxer Tyson Sarfo refused to fight his opponent.

"I will not fight Bawumia tonight because my instincts tell me not to," Sarfo told his disappointed fans.

The boxer had earlier predicted a first round technical knockout win over Bawumia So-La in their six-round contest, which was the main bout of the evening, but dramatically threw in the towel some few minutes before the commencement of the fight.

Bawumia's camp, which was poised for the bout jeered and booed at Sarfo as they could not come to terms with his decision to refuse to fight after he was declared medically fit after going through the weight check.

In the Light- Welterweight, Samson 'Kingkong' Kinkanga out pointed Richard Caesar, by 119-108, to win the six-round bout.

The fiercely contested match saw Caesar bleeding profusely in the nose in the fifth round and had to seek medical attention after both boxers threw caution to the wind and traded hefty punches.

In the Featherweight contest, the "Ashanti pride" Eric Odumase, a UK-based Ghanaian boxer who was the guest fighter of the competition, drew with Benjamin Tutu 112-112 in a bout in which Eric exhibited much experience and professionalism to the delight of his home fans. Tutu dominated the initial rounds of their six-round bout with good hit and run jabs but it was Odumase who came back strongly in the fifth and six rounds as he pummelled his opponent with accurate left hooks. Kojo Issah who was supposed to have pitch his strength against Samuel 'Whitaker' Wobil Tembil in the welterweight, could not honour his fight due to ill health.

However, the Golden Kids Promotions, organisers of the competition engaged Tembil and Bawumia in an exhibition fight, which saw Bawumia giving a good account of himself in spite of their weight difference.
