Accra, Jan 14, GNA - Prince Dokun Abidoye, Chairman of Seatrans Limited, a Tema based shipping company on Tuesday presented a cheque for 25 million cedis to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana towards this year's SWAG Awards Night.
The business tycoon who is popularly referred to as "the Pillar of Sports in Africa" and has great respectability among Nigerians for his philanthropic gestures said he was delighted to contribute to this year's event despite the short notice and promised to support SWAG in its future programmes.
He hoped this year's ceremony would not only be successful but, would also achieve its wider objective of spurring Ghanaian sportsmen and women to work harder and realize their full potentials and bring honour and wealth to themselves and the country. Prince Abidoye postulated that sports has become a veritable means of employment and livelihood which has vaulted very poor people from the nadir of starvation and disease to the pinnacle of vitality and riches and urged the youth to adopt sports as a profession as its benefits are copious.
The Pillar of Sports in Africa advised sports writers to contribute massively towards the growth of sports by educating the fans to be law abiding because peaceful sports environments attract more spectators and increase the revenue of organizers and participant at sports events. He implored those in charge of sports development to provide facilities and equipment to encourage the youth to take to sports because accelerated development thrives on the availability of good playing fields, tracks, courts and kits that induce mass participation in the various sports.
