Beach Soccer clubs receive final sponsorship payment

The ten clubs participating in the 2014 Cal Bank Beach Soccer Championship have received the final instalment of their appearance fees from Cal Bank.

The presentations were made after club executives, beach soccer officials and other stakeholders including the media, following a massive clean-up exercise in La Accra.

Out of a total cash package of GHC44,000 ($14,490) from Cal Bank, the association put aside half the amount to pay the clubs appearance fees.

Although this amount is seen by most followers of the exciting sport as woefully inadequate to run and sustain the Championship, the clubs and the association have rallied to complete three consecutive league seasons since 2011.

The shoe-string budget of Ghana beach soccer is made the more remarkable when one considers that Beach Soccer World Wide (BSWW) has ranked Ghana the 8th best team on the continent following just one appearance at the Africa qualifiers for the last beach soccer World Cup.

Meanwhile, the GBSA has released fixtures for the weekend’s games with Havedzi Mighty Warriors taking on Ada Assurance. Havedzi who picked up six wins from seven from the first half of the season, go into Saturday’s clash as strong favourites especially as Ada Assurance have failed to replicate the form that saw them finish runners up last season.

Double Championship winners, Sunset Sports will have a real game on their hands as they take on revelation of the season East Legon Sharks.

Dansoman and La based Layoca will lock horns in what looks like an evenly balanced encounter. Debutants Gulf powers have ruffled a few feathers since gaining promotion. Up next for them is a game against La based Wuo Gbee, a side that has huge potential but so far keep faltering in the campaign.

Bottom of the Championship table is newly promoted Nima BSC who face Teshie United. With Nima still searching for the first point since making the leap into the top flight, this could be a thrilling affair with lots of goals.

The Division One fixtures are as follows:

Cape Coast Warriors vs. Tegbi Youth Nungua vs Osu Dolphins Tema United vs. Wineba Giants Senya Sharks vs. Chokor Blue Whales Golden Eagles vs. African Angels
