Wakaso plays a part in Espanyol's defeat

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso came on as a second half substitute but was unable to help Espanyol in their 2-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

The 22-year-old replaced Victor Sanchez in the 46th minute but ended up on the losing side.

Wakaso was playing just his second game for the Blue and Whites since returning from a club ban.

The former Villareal player was slapped with suspension and a fine for delaying his return from the 2013 Nations Cup where he emerged the tournament’s top scorer.

The Ghana international is yet to start a game for Espanyol since his return to first team action.

Wakaso is expected to be named in the next Ghana squad that will face Sudan in the 2014 World Cup qualifier on March 24.

He will however play one more game in the Spanish top flight against Malaga before joining the Black Stars team if he makes the squad expected to be announced next week.
