Dede Ayew wins Marseille Player of the Month Award

Ghanaian midfielder, Andre Dede Ayew, channeled his frustration of being dropped from Ghana’s Nations Cup squad into having his best spell at Marseille this season helping him to win the club’s player of the month of January award.

Dede Ayew won the award after getting 55% of the vote cast on the club’s official website. Younger brother who also was dropped from the Black Stars squad came in second, receiving 24% of the vote cast with French Striker Andre Pierre Gignac coming in third with 21%.

Andre Ayew scored two goals, while Jordan Ayew scored a goal each in all 3 of Marseille’s league games in the month as the Olympians picked up four points in a difficult run of games including a win against Ligue 1 Champions Montpellier. Asked what public recognition from the fans meant for him Andre Ayew opined

“Yes, this is important because I had an early season quite complicated with a lot of injuries. Currently, I'm trying to show that when I'm 100%, I can do the job properly. But I still have a huge room for improvement, I'm still very young and I'm still growing up now.”

February did not start that well for second place Jordan who picked up a red over the weekend after only 111 seconds on the pitch and will be suspended in Marseille’s weekend fixture. Marseille are currently in third position on the league table, 8 points behind the money bags-PSG.
