When Arago met Quincy in Greece

19 year old Arago Jamal was beside himself in awe after meeting compatriot Quincy Owusu Abeyie in Europe as their respective clubs came face to face in the Greek Super League last Sunday. Both Ghanaian players warmed the bench throughout for their respective sides as Arago’s Atromitos lost 1-2 at home to Abeyie’s Panathnaikos.

Arago who famously won the 2009 MTN Soccer Academy TV reality show, signed a 3-year deal with Atromitos this season after impressing the Greek club’s scouts following winning a youth tournament in Germany last year whilst on the books of Berekum Chelsea.

The teenager has featured mostly with the U-20 side of Atromitos but has also often made the senior team as he did last Sunday against Panathnaikos and even though his side which surprisingly still sit 5 points above Panathnaikos lost, Arago took the opportunity to meet a fellow countryman in the same league for the first time.

“Yes I’ve been here since the beginning of the season, it’s going well and I’m learning a lot and building my career. I’m enjoying it so far and last Sunday was extra special because we played against Quincy Owusu Abeyie’s team even though we were both just on the bench,” Arago told 90 minutes exclusively via phone from his Greece base.

The youngster continued: “So after the game when we went into the dressing room and showered, I went over to meet him and it was a very emotional scene as he got to know we are both Ghanaians. We exchanged contacts and we keep in touch, it’s going well and nice with him.”
