Ghana Meets Burkina Faso in Semis

..as Pitroipa’s extra-time header earns Stallions a place in the semifinal

A goal from Stade Rennes striker Jonathan Pitroipa in extra time decided the last Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal game between Burkina Faso and Togo on Sunday evening in Nelspruit, giving the Stallions a 1-0 win and setting up a semifinal clash with the Black Stars of Ghana.

After 90 minutes of scoreless action saw Emmanuel Adebayor and his Togo teammates come close to taking the lead on a number of occasions, one moment of brilliance in the 105th minute saw the Spurs striker and his team bounced from the competition.

The extra time started with a lot of commitment from both sides, but execution was poor in the final third.
The 1998 hosts saw more of the second half of extra time and the team's effort paid off as Pitroipa put the club into the lead with a powerful headed that banged off the bar and in.
Togo could not recover in time to continue its run in the AFCON and Burkina Faso can continue dreaming of glory.
