New Edubiase top FA Cup awards nominations

It’s official. FA Cup champions
New Edubiase have topped the list of nominees for the 2011/12 MTN FA Cup
awards, Sportsinghana.com can report.
Edubiase followed up a
brilliant Glo Ghana Premier League season to clinch the knock out competition
even without captain Mumuni Abubakar and Emmanuel Baffour whose league topping
goals helped them to a record 5th place finish in the league.
Now Moro Ibrahim and Edubiase
teammate Samuel Abeiku Ainooson along with Ashantigold’s Didier Kore are
competing for the Most Valuable Player award of the 2011/12 MTN FA Cup season,
the FA Cup Committee have announced.
Abeiku Ainooson again is up
for the Best Defender award against Henry Enchil and his Ashgold teammate Lawrence
Lartey who was nominated for this same award after winning the FA Cup with
Nania FC.
Goalkeeper of the tournament is
a straight fight between Idrissa Salia of
Edubiase and Ashantigold’s Fatau Dauda who is currently with the
national team in Monrovia preparing for a friendly international against
Liberia on Tuesday.
New Edubiase and Tema Youth
are joint top scoring clubs whilst Daniel Awuni of Nungua based Division One
League side Danbort FC topped the scorers’ charts and is sole candidate for the
goalking award.
Goal of the tournament is contested
between Ishmael Obodai of King Solomon for his strike against Zaytuna, Uriah
Asante for Hearts of Oak against Dunkwa United, Godbless Asante for Wassaman
against Tema Youth, Moro Ibrahim for New Edubiase versus Danbort FC and Prince
Atakora Gyimah for Hearts of Oak against Ashgold.
Coach of the tournament is a
battle between helmsmen of the four semi finalists, Yaw Acheampong (Ashgold),
Anthony Commey (New Edubiase), Hans van der Pluijm (Berekum Chelsea) and Abu
Yusif of Wassaman United.
Up for discovery of the tournament
are Mintah of Wassaman, Edubiase duo Bernard and Ebenezer Ofori, Victor Ayire
of Amidaus FC as well as Hearts of Oak starlet Ashitey Ollenu.
Joseph Lamptey, Samuel Suker
and Charles Nii Tagoe are nominated for the best referee award whilst the best
assistant referee award has as nominees, AS Malik, Ben Vormawor and Kennedy
Bentil.
A new award category is the
MC of the tournament which has Gbawuakye and Francis Brobbey as nominees and there
will also be special awards.
