Hearts of Oak institutes monthly player awards scheme

Hearts have instituted a player awards scheme to reward exceptional performances as they get ready for the start of the new season. supersport.com understands that the move was met with unanimous approval across the club's management spectrum.

The former league champions have been involved in brainstorming sessions to stem their poor form of previous seasons. The monthly award will first be given in October when the league begins.

It is not clear how the award winner for each month will be chosen, but supersport.com understands that the player who will win the highest number of monthly awards will be crowned Hearts' Club Player of the Season.

Doubled cash

A source also pointed out that player bonuses have been reviewed. As stated elsewhere on supersport.com, a 100% increment in player salaries bonuses will be institutionalized when the league begins as well.

The club is also set to double monthly wages, which ranged from 150 to 320 Ghana cedis ($ 75 to $160). At the moment, the highest earning player in the team is Laryea Kingston, who earns 1000 Ghana cedis ($500) monthly.

All these decisions have been announced at a strategic time, as the news have been designed to boost investor confidence in the club's stocks and shares. Hearts held their first Annual General Meeting on Tuesday - the first since the club listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
