Mamelodi Sundowns sign Ghanaian star

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced that they have signed Ghana's national Under-20 captain Mumuni Abubaker.

The midfielder, who is apparently one of the hottest properties in Ghana football, has signed a five year deal with the Brazilians – two years, plus with an option of three more years.

According to the club, the 19-year-old underwent a medical at the weekend.

Abubaker says he watched Sundowns in action recently and liked what he saw.

"I have watched Mamelodi Sundowns play and I must say that I like the way the players attack and defend as a unit, the most recent match that I watched was the Nedbank Cup Final against SuperSport United. I know this is a big Club and therefore want to conquer, I'm determined to work hard for the team to ensure they achieve that goal,” he tells the club's website.

Abubaker played for Ghana Premier League side New Edubiase.

Early this year he underwent a two-week trial at English giants Liverpool, after he was spotted during a friendly against Italian side Parma and invited to England.

He was voted the Ghana Premier League's 2010-11 Player of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.
