Derek Boateng cleared for World Cup qualifiers

Ghana has received a massive boost as midfielder Derek Boateng has been cleared to play in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers next month.

There were fears the 29-year-old could miss the double header against Lesotho and Zambia in June for his sending off in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

However MTNFootball.com checks at Caf have shown that the Dnipro enforcer will not serve a three-match ban.

That’s because he was sent off in the match against Zambia after attracting two yellow cards which is punishable by a game’s ban.

After sitting out the third-place playoff game at the Nations Cup against Mali, Boateng is now free to play for the Black Stars.

The news comes as a massive relief to Ghana with Boateng’s performance proving crucial in recent times for the Black Stars.

In the absence of many key players Boateng will be influential if the Black Stars are to get the results they want.
