The quest to promote and develop Rugby as a leading sport in
this country receives a huge financial boost come Friday when the Ghana Rugby
Association formally launch a major fundraising drive. The event scheduled for
the Media
Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium has been necessitated by the persistent financial
difficulties faced by the association, solely depending on government support
and few sponsors.
In partnership withKingdom
Support Services (KSS), the Rugby Association will undertake a two month fund
raising exercise across the nation aimed at improving the game nationwide and
also meeting the association’s two-year strategic plan.
“This financial weakness has contributed to the
inability of the Association to become a full member of the International Rugby
Board (IRB) which when achieved will in turn ease the financial burden on the
Association through the acquisition of development grants,” stated a press release
by the Ghana Rugby Association.
As part of the launch, the association will auction a
number of unique and priceless souvenirs which include signed jerseys and balls
by international rugby icons like Mike Catt and Paul Sackey.
