Akaminko rubbishes local league return report

Stalwart defender Jerry Akaminko has rubbished speculations that he was retuning from his Turkey base to play in the Glo Premier League in Ghana. Speaking to Happy Sports in an exclusive interview, he revealed that the news came to him as a surprise via Face book by friends and relatives.

“I was surprised when I heard the news that I was returning to play in the Ghanaian league from my brother. Others also asked me on Face book why am I not returning to my former club Lions, and they wanted to know if I had problems with my former employers.

“I can say for a fact that there is nothing like Jerry returning to play in the Ghanaian top flight league,” he said in plain words. The former Heart of Lions libero stated that he is a key performer in his Turkish side, Orduspor having featured in 55 league games.

He made a passionate appeal to the media to cross check their facts before going public since such news could have a telling effect on players careers. “If my employers should hear such a rumour they will tag me as dishonest and that could ruin my career, I beg of writers and broadcasters to check their facts well before they go on air or publish,” added Akaminko.

He revealed that the news has made him change his decision of coming to Ghana for this year’s Christmas holidays. Akaminko, who has played in the Turkish league for three seasons was a key member of the U-17 losing finalists, who lost to The Gambia under a bizarre circumstance under coach David Duncan in 2005 when The Gambia hosted the competition.

His contract with the Turkish 2 Ligi A side expires in May 2011.
