Struggling Olympics pip RTU

Accra, March 31, GNA - Struggling Accra Great Olympics staggered to give their Premiership survival a boast with a hard fought 2-1 victory over visiting Real Tamale United (RTU) at the El-Wak stadium, Accra in their Glo mid-week encounter on Wednesday.

Both teams struggled to snatch an early dominance but whiles chances remained scanty far in-between, it was RTU's Richard Yeboah who should have sent the visitors in the lead in the 35th minute when he raced clear the Olympics markers but with only goalkeeper Francis Arthur to beat he shot wayward.

Three minutes on, RTU was left punished when Romeo Argble sent a feeble one past the visitor's goalkeeper, Nana Bonsu to send the demanding Olympics supporters in an ecstatic mood.

Olympics came good after the lead and with a goal beckoning with each move, goalkeeper Nana Bonsu again made it easier for the "Wonder Club" to consolidate their lead on the stroke of half time when he allowed James Abban to pop up from behind to head home over the compromised goalie. The second half saw a much more improved game for the visitor's who pulled a goal back through an individual brilliance of Toufik Alolo in the 88th minute but try as they did they could not split the points and allowed Olympics to go home with the maximum three points.
