Minister inspects Hockey stadium

Accra, May 14, GNA - Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister of Youth and Sports has undertaking an inspection of the construction of the 12,000 capacity all seater Hockey Stadium for the impending Africa Hockey Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana in July this year. The inspection was to assess the rate of work being undertaking by the contractors on the project and the kind of support to be provided by the government to speed up its early completion.

The Minister was briefed by Jimmy Castagna, Project Coordinator of Micheleti and Co. Ghana Limited, contractors of the project during the inspection of the on-going works.

Mr Castagna expressed confidence that his outfit will meet the June 30 deadline set for the completion of the project despite the limited time allocated to them for the completion of the stadium. "We have so far spent 50 days, we still have 50 more days to go, and I'm very confident we will complete the project on time". According to Mr Castagna he is convinced the company will meet the deadline because all materials meant for the project had arrived in the country and they will soon take delivery of them to expedite the completion of the project.

Alhaji Muntaka expressed satisfaction with the rate of work so far saying, "I'm now convinced that the facility will be ready for use for the tournament in July".

He said his outfit will give the contractors the needed support in order to meet their deadline and urged them to put in their maximum best towards the successful completion of the project. The Minister commended the contractors for a well executed job so far done despite the limited time at their disposal. Alhaji Muntaka said he would pay regular visits to the site to enable him have first hand information on the progress of the project in a bid to ensure a successful tournament.
