Jones Attuquayfio Sacked

The head coach of the senior national team the Black Stars, "Sir" Cecil Jones Atuquayfio, has been relieved of his post.

A letter communicating the decision was delivered to the coach late yesterday. He is to hand over to Mr. Osam Duodu. Reasons being offered for his disengagement, point to his tight calender with Champion club Accra Hearts of Oak.

Meanwhile Jones Atuquayfio has submitted his letter of disengagement and his letter of appointment to his lawyer for comments. The letter appointing him signed by the GFA chairman Alhaji Jawula indicates that, Jones is on a three-year contract and a monthly salary of $5000 with a signing on fee of $30,000.

With this development, FIFA is likely to ask the GFA to part with $210,000 to the coach for the three-year contract and the signing on fee. A situation that hit Ghana after Bukhard Ziese was sacked in 1991.
