Osei Cobbina wins Delta Open Championship

Kumasi, Oct. 15, GNA - Royal Golf Club of Kumasi dominated the maiden edition of the Delta Open Golf championship with Master Osei Cobbina, a 22-year-old electrician apprentice placing first with a score of 134 net to win the men's event at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.

He received a trophy and an air ticket to the United States of America, which was donated by the Delta Airlines, sponsors of the tournament. The 36 Hole tournament, which was opened to handicap 1-18, attracted about 135 golfers from the Awaso, Kumasi, Daaman, Achimota, Tema, Celebrity, Obuasi, Tarkwa and Windy-Bay Golf Clubs.

Dr Sam Nixon, also of the Royal Golf Club scored 138 net to take the second position while Awudu Houller, Bassel Hahed and Kojo Kyei, all of the Royal Golf Club scored 139, 141 and 141 nets respectively to win the third, fourth and fifth positions in the Men's event. Margaret Ivy Oppong also of the Royal Golf Club of Kumasi scored 149 net to lift the Ladies' trophy. She received a trophy and an air ticket to the USA.

Beatrice Adjei from Obuasi Golf Club scored 157 on count back to place second while Grace Afriyie from Tema Golf club scored 157 to take the third position.

Mr Daniel Dweteh-Agyare, Sales Manager of Aviation Alliance Limited, General Sales Agents for Delta Airlines said the competition was to thank the numerous customers of the airline in Kumasi and its environs for their continued patronage of their services. He announced Delta Air Lines would soon open an office in Kumasi to serve the northern sector of the country. Mr Kwasi Obeng Agyeman, Captain of the Royal Golf Club said the competition was the beginning of a good relationship between the Club and the airline and called on the members to corporate towards the growth of the Club.

Nana Boakye Atonsah 11, Otumfuo's Akomfrehene, who was the Guest of Honour thanked the Airlines for supporting the Club to develop the sport in the Region.
